Voter Turnout

Voter turnout was virtually the same as 2004 when looking at percentage of population. It was a decent turnout, but guess what? Republican turnout was lower than the last election, while Democrat turnout was higher.

It is my personal opinion that McCain's choice of Sarah Palin helped him to win more votes than he would have won with a less conservative choice. It is true that conservative Republicans were not happy with McCain - he's a RINO.

If a Republican candidate cannot get Republicans to the polling place, they will never win.

What was the strategy behind propelling McCain as our candidate? Did the RNC believe that a RINO would attract the center/left vote? I will admit that I thought it might work at first, but after hearing hundreds of conservatives voice their dissatisfaction with McCain I thought he was toast. Then he picked Sarah Palin as his VP. A true conservative, and an unabashed conservative, she attracted many of the voters that were feeling lackluster aboutMcCain.

It wasn't enough. The RNC, and the Republicans in Congress, need to heed the lessons that we learned in 2008. Hold fast to your conservative principles or your time in office will be short.

McCain was no gem, but he was a damn sight better than the extreme far leftist Obama.

The best thing about being out here where the "wind comes sweeping down the plain" is that we are a Red State and will probable always be a Red State.

I've got a link to a neat YouTube of Tom Coburn (a.k.a. DR. NO. - our senator) in the Bog. He's one of my guys/gals in the US Congress.

Hang in there Grizz... we have to revigorate the Conservatives a round us. GOP/Centerist is not fire up us conservative types.

I think that you called it just right in that post. The simple math (at least here in the bog) is that Republican DOES NOT EQUAL Conservative.

Peace and all good,

Thanks Kermit. Neither Troll nor I were happy at ALL with McCain - he is a RINO - and I heard much the same thing from many conservative friends, some of whom were going to sit out the election because they disliked McCain so much.

I'm so glad you are in a red state. I am in the red part of PA. We recently moved from the blue part of PA, Philadelphia, where everything is going to hell in a handbasket. Any city controlled by democrats seems to go downhill fast.

I didn't care for McCain at all but there is a time when the lesser of two evils in infinitely better. The bad news is that Obama won and we are in for four years of misery. The good news is that many of those who voted for Change will have learned that not all change is good. Keep your courage up. The GOP will be back, soon.

Interesting about that stock market, though. It plunged the minute Obama was named winner...

I totally agree, Shoprat. It seems that our hardline conservatives didn't agree, and thought that 4 years of socialism ought to do the trick? Thank you for the words of encouragement.

We can only hope for a revitalization of the GOP - back to it's core principle of limited government. The GOP over the last several years have squandered the opportunity that they were given. Perhaps another conservative leader will show up - much as Reagan showed up after Jimmy had brought out economy (and our prestige in international relations) to the brink of disaster with his asinine policies.

The Socialists assert that the Stock Market plunge that happened the minute Obama was named winner is nothing. No "proof" - but to Socialists, Proof is simply a function of Belief since theirs is a Religion.
Everybody however openly agrees that when Bush rescinded the no-drill oil order, that oil prices immediately fell simply on the threat of drilling, AND that skyrocketing gun-sales are directly due to Obama.
Obama has revealed plans to re-institute the no-drill order - so prices will naturally go up again, and everyone knows he's going to ram another Assault Weapon Ban down American's throats based not on Congress or the Senate but on "Executive Orders" - and Rahm Emmanuel who was Chicago Mayor Daley's point-man on gun bans is Obama's Chief of Staff...

I could be wrong, but deep down inside, I still think and feel that the RNC and McCain purposely hande this election to Obama. Something, on a spiritual level tells me that the reasoning behind this is to push closer to the One World Government. Even this whole financial mess we are in was purposely contrived to help destroy the world economy which would be needed to institute a One World Cashless society. Stop and think, when Obama, Chris Dodd and Barney Frank were supposed to be drafting regulations to prevent the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, they were receiving huge donations from these groups, and Braney Frank was even carrying on a homosexual love affair with one of the Big wigs from Fannie Mae.

I'm sorry, but I honestly believe we were set up big time. I could be crazy, but I doubt it.

DC - you see the lunacy evident here in my comment section... MBM fails to understand a key point, and I'm not going to spell it out for him. He's young. He thinks he knows it all. He likes to throw terms around, like 'corporate welfare' and 'duh'. I agree that we are in for a very rough few years. I'm toying with suckling off the teat of big government myself... Why work??!?

Father Gregori, I'm not sure if it was all planned out. Perhaps Bush was the best the GOP had to offer - and it wasn't quite good enough (again). At the time, he was a damn sight better than either Gore OR Kerry. So we got stuck with a President who didn't believe as passionately in limited government as most Americans do, and a bunch of weasel republican representatives with not a single spine between the lot of them. We'll end up in a hell of a mess and the MBM's of the world will be the first ones to start whining when it all goes to shit. Heck - they're ALREADY whining! lol.

It is unfortunate, Chico, that many of our most educated leftists really believe that socialism is the answer. It is one reason that I chose to homeschool for so long - the 'education' Americans are getting is crap. The old 60's commies all gravitated toward education in this country, Ayers is a good example, and now we have a couple of generations of complete idiots on our hands. MBM being one example, and chessmom another. Socialism has NEVER, EVER, EVER worked - anywhere. In fact, I myself am toying with the idea of living off of the government for the next few years. Why work - just to have my income confiscated?

Anything besides your what your idiotic friends write? You are perhaps not aware of the many advantages the the weak dollar has for our economy? You didn't hear about Germany's pronouncement of imminent bankruptcy just a few days ago? If it weren't for the UK shoveling billions of their own currency into the EU - they'd have been belly up a while ago. And you can't forget (but of course you have, or perhaps you just weren't aware...) that most European countries have a VERY small defense budget - and are not at all prepared to defend themselves militarily if need be, because they know that America will save their asses AGAIN. Maybe we will. If you get your wish - which I'm sure includes a huge cut in the military budget - we will have our hands tied behind our back as well.

These are some of the people you are looking down on everyday. I will always choose to bailout the poor over corporations like AIG. I will gladly go to work and give you my tax dollars if you and your children should need it.

If there are big military cuts does this mean we won't be able to bomb countries that were never a threat to us? Do YOU ever read anything, or is that why you admire Sarah Palin so much?

Grizzly Mama,

It is a myth that Welfare gives people an incentive to not work. Who are all these people that could work but choose to sit around and collect tiny welfare checks? The majority of the people on welfare are mostly adults with physical or mental handicaps that prevent them from working. Studies have shown that most welfare recipients do want to and do seek work. Do you have a problem with Veterans with disabilities getting money from the government?

Wal-Mart has received over one billion dollars in economic subsidies from state and local governments, is it ok with you for them to get public assistance? It then uses tax payer dollars to create jobs that pay poverty wages with no health care. (Hope you didn't buy any of their eggs or milk from China last week...). So what type of government assistance are you against? Is it ok that Dick Cheneys company Halliburton has made more than 1.7 billion dollars off the government for its work in Iraq? That's different, right?

14 November, 2008 17:04
Blogger Grizzly Mama said...

It is not a myth. You are believing lies and are unfamiliar with history. There are millions of people who take advantage of government payouts, lie to get them, use the money for dope/sculptured nails/junk food etc... They lie about their living arrangements, lie about how many dependents they have - just lie in order to get more because they are supposedly 'entitled' to it. Furthermore, the standard of living that the government believes that the unwashed welfare recipients ought to live in is a disgrace - way worse than any WalMart employee could get anywhere. Doctors who take medicaid often overcharge the government to the tune of thousands of dollars because they know that they can get away with it.

It is pointless to discuss this with you, although I will point out that WalMart does not pay poverty wages, offers healthcare to its employees, offers a good product at a fair price, was the first company to offer $4.00 prescriptions to the public - and Halliburton was one of, like, 2 companies on the face of the earth that could do the job that needed to get done. The other company was a French company, and I'm sure that you would prefer to take the wealth away from American workers and give it to the French because afterall it's obscene that anybody should make any kind of money in this country. You seem to be an isolationist as well - not wanting people to buy foreign goods.

You are unfamiliar with facts. You are impossible to debate with because of it.

You really are a mess and you haven't refuted ONE point that I've made since you came over here shitting up my blog.

Grizzly Mama, I guess like most of your right wing friends you still can not read...one more program that us liberals have to help you out..but if you can read at least at a third grade level check this out...

From http://wakeupwalmart.com/facts/

In 2001, sales associates, the most common job in Wal-Mart, earned on average $8.23 an hour for annual wages of $13,861. The 2001 poverty line for a family of three was $14,630. ["Is Wal-Mart Too Powerful?", Business Week, 10/6/03, US Dept of Health and Human Services 2001 Poverty Guidelines, 2001]

A 2003 wage analysis reported that cashiers, the second most common job, earn approximately $7.92 per hour and work 29 hours a week. This brings in annual wages of only $11,948.

Wal-Mart can cover the cost of a dollar an hour wage increase by raising prices a half penny per dollar. For instance, a $2.00 pair of socks would then cost $2.01. This minimal increase would annually add up to $1,800 for each employee.

Wal-Mart's 2006 Annual Report reported that the company faced 57 wage and hour lawsuits. Major lawsuits have either been won or are working their way through the legal process in states such as California, Indiana, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington.

In December 2005, a California court ordered Wal-Mart to pay $172 million in damages for failing to provide meal breaks to nearly 116,000 hourly workers as required under state law. Wal-Mart appealed the case.

A Pennsylvania court, also in December 2005, approved a class-action lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. by employees in Pennsylvania who say the company pressured them to work off the clock. The class could grow to include nearly 150,000 current or former employees.

There are many more Fact like this to refute your ill conceived position. If you need more just ask...

Oh Lord have mercy. I've got the dad faction of the chess family now and with his own brand of what he considers a witty insult! How smart you are, hmmm?

I just have a couple of questions, and then I shall leave you to your wife, where you can hate WalMart and the capitalist social system together in perfect happiness.

What is the federal minimum wage? It is less than $8.23 p/hour, so you are pissed at WalMart for paying over the minimum wage - which many, many, MANY companies do not do. I can't imagine anyone supporting a family of 4 on one WalMart job, are you suggesting that families should be able to do that? Just what would a fair wage for a WalMart cashier be in your little world? $9.23 per hour - it seems, yet there is no way that a family of 4 could subsist on that one job alone even at $9.23 p/hour. So your proposal means squat - nothing. You have no solution, other than to force WalMart to raise its prices by one penny per product? What an ungodly waste of time you are.

As for the lawsuits, God bless America. Don't you think? Don't you think that it is a sign of a healthy social system that ordinary citizens have recourse in a court of law? Are you capable of understanding that businesses everywhere constantly try to overstep the labor laws? It is why we live in a country in which the citizens respect the rule of law and know their rights. WalMart was penalized, as it rightly should have been, and I have no doubt that they will pay the fines and I'm sure that upper management will think twice before going that direction again.

Do you believe in a world in which everyone does good all of the time voluntarily? It's not the way it works, my little 3rd grade reader, and that is why we have a legal system where penalties are paid by people who refuse to do that.

I really don't need anymore of your 'facts' as you like to call them. You, too, are an idiot. A useful one, but an idiot just the same.

15 November, 2008 09:17
Blogger Chess Mom said...

I forgot to tell Chessdad that only you are allowed to name call. Anyway, 'people on welfare eat junk food, get sculpted nails and buy dope', is that straight out of Bill O'Reilly's mouth? I did want to say something about me not wanting people to buy foreign goods. I'm all for this as long as it isn't a dangerous, inferior product. Most of Wal-Marts products are from China and are made out of toxic materials. The majority of the time there is a recall it is always something from China, like eggs and milk with melamine being sold at Wal-Mart. Potato chips with a seasoning that has salmonella because the spices were from China. Last summer they were selling flip-flops from China that ate the flesh off of peoples skin because of the toxic material they were made out of. I'm lucky, I don't have to shop at Wal-Mart, but I know there are many people who are forced to and it's not fair they have to buy garbage so Sam Walton's children can all make billion dollar profits. I can only imagine where their meat comes from. I believe in regulations, thats what the liberals have done for this country, if it weren't for us you wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything. My brother is one of the top environmentalists in the country and he has always said if Republicans had it their way corporations would be able to do and dump anything. I'm all for regulations. Why are you against products and companies from the US? And what do you have against all those amazing little stores on Main Street that Wal-Mart has managed to destroy? I won't go into all the sweat shop stories where all this junk is made, that's a whole other can of worms...

I wonder if they are aware of the great number of sick people who come from Canada to this country for medical assistance because they would have to wait longer than their life expectancy for treatment in Canada.
Ask them if they ever heard of the USSR. That was a super power Socialistic nation..'oops'.. ho boy,-what happened to them? Also, Cuba might be a good example.

China is a socialistic nation that is surely doing well-as long as you don't plan on having more children than is allowed by the Government.

I knew a fellow in Modesto when I was a tad, age seven, named Freddy B---es. The boys' mother was the second generation welfare recepient, her mother had 'enrolled' years before. That was in 1943. Members of that same family were still living there in 1993 when I drove around, visiting my old home place neighborhood, still on welfare. Freddy had died but his grandchildren were there, doing pretty well.
